About This Photo

The Bavarian Alps seem to have an endless supply of cute little chapels with spectacular views. Kirchleitn Kapelle in Berchtesgaden, overlooking Germany's second highest mountain the Watzmann, is no exception.

On a crisp, clear and still autumn morning I woke up a couple of hours before sunrise and walked alone (Danny was not the least bit keen in joining me!) through the quiet streets of Berchtesgaden and up to the chapel, hoping to get some photos of the stars. They didn't work out so well but I liked this dawn light the best, where the sky and mountain are purpled and the light in the chapel window can still be seen.

I need to remind myself that no matter how much I dislike getting up early it always makes me happy and fills me up in a way almost nothing else does. There is something magical about the early morning, when the earth is quiet and restful and the first light of a new day starts to appear, all whilst most people are still asleep...
