The Voice of Friendship

We shall not hide from one another,
But lay our hearts and souls bare
For each other to see.

We shall not attempt to
Polish the darkness,
But allow the light of friendship
To dissolve it in gentle acceptance.

We all have dark places.
Of sadness.
And fear.
And doubt.

When we can show these to another,
And still receive their love,
We have found a true friend.

The spirit of friendship
Lies in having
The trust
And courage
To bare our quiveringly imperfect,
Yet exquisitely beautiful,
Souls to another -
In all its messiness
And all its glory.

And of embracing
Their naked heart too.
